A Home For Choral Music in Australia

History

Founded in 2011, Voyces Incorporated has evolved into a vibrant hub for choral music in Australia, transforming the landscape of contemporary choral performance. Voyces was established with the mission to convey unforgettable stories through the medium of choral music. This vision was always clear and in 2011, the organisation underwent significant changes, leading to the rebranding as The Choral Collective. This pivotal transformation was not just a change of name but a commitment to expanding the reach and impact of choral music across the country.

At its core, The Choral Collective remains steadfast in its dedication to choral music. Our primary objective is to position choral music as an essential component of Australia’s cultural sector. We aim to provide talented musicians with the opportunity to develop their skills, earn a living, create innovative works, and perform at the highest levels. This commitment to nurturing talent and fostering artistic excellence is what sets us apart.

A Collective Approach to Choral Excellence

The name “The Choral Collective” encapsulates our ethos perfectly. It signifies a collaborative network of choirs, each working towards a shared goal: to enhance the appreciation and performance of choral music in Australia. Under this umbrella, we proudly own and operate several distinguished ensembles, including Voyces, Vanguard Consort, and the Perth Choral Institute. Additionally, we are the parent organisation of The Winthrop Singers, further solidifying our position as a cornerstone of the choral community.

Each ensemble within The Choral Collective brings its unique flavour and expertise, enriching the overall tapestry of our musical offerings. By fostering collaboration among these groups, we can create a diverse array of performances that resonate with audiences across various demographics. Whether through traditional choral works or contemporary compositions, our choirs are committed to delivering high-quality music that engages and inspires.

Leadership

The Choral Collective is guided by a passionate and dedicated leadership team. Artistic Director Dr Robert Braham OAM brings a wealth of experience and artistic vision to the organisation. Under his leadership, our ensembles have flourished, continually pushing the boundaries of what choral music can achieve. His commitment to excellence is mirrored by Operations Director Stefan Pugliese and Managing Director Luke Donohoe, both of whom play crucial roles in ensuring the smooth operation and strategic growth of the collective.

Together, this dynamic trio is focused on sustaining our momentum. They are committed to creating innovative programming that not only showcases our talented musicians but also invites new audiences into the world of choral music. Their leadership is instrumental in developing initiatives that support emerging artists and engage the broader community in our mission.

Community Engagement and Education

At The Choral Collective, we believe that choral music should be accessible to everyone. That’s why we place a strong emphasis on community engagement and education. Through our Perth Choral Institute, we offer various educational programs designed to cultivate the next generation of choral musicians. These initiatives include workshops, masterclasses, and performance opportunities, all aimed at fostering a love for choral music among young people.

We also strive to engage with local communities through outreach programs that bring choral music to schools, community centres, and other public spaces. By connecting with diverse audiences, we aim to demystify choral music and make it an integral part of the cultural fabric of Australia.

Innovative Performances and Collaborations

Innovation is at the heart of what we do. The Choral Collective regularly collaborates with various artists, composers, and organisations to create unique performances that challenge conventional boundaries. Our commitment to commissioning new works is evident in our diverse repertoire, which includes contemporary compositions that reflect current societal themes and issues.

By collaborating with local and international artists, we aim to bring fresh perspectives to choral music. These partnerships not only enhance our performances but also create a dynamic dialogue within the arts community. Through these collaborations, we can explore new musical ideas and expand our artistic horizons.

The Future of Choral Music in Australia

As we look to the future, The Choral Collective is excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. Our commitment to growth, creativity, and artistic integrity remains unwavering. We believe that choral music can play a vital role in shaping cultural conversations in Australia. By continuing to develop our ensembles, expand our educational programs, and engage with communities, we are dedicated to ensuring that choral music remains a vibrant and relevant art form.
